Earlier this year, The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) published a ground-breaking guideline titled "The Joint Clinical Practice Guideline on Benzodiazepine Tapering."
This is the first clinical guideline to recognize protracted withdrawal and BIND (Benzodiazepine Induced Neurological Dysfunction), and it is endorsed by 10 separate medical associations.
While far from perfect, this guideline is a game changer.
Today, Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring released a brand new podcast interview with D E Foster (Uneven Life) and John Staight, both panelists and collaborators on the ASAM guideline. They discuss how they became involved in the multi-year project, how the lived-experience panel pushed back on several versions, and the effect this document will have on the patients, the doctors, and even possible lawsuits.
