Voice
...a human connection
in a digital world.
about the podcast

In a world that never seems to slow down, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply exhausted by all the noise.
A Calm Voice is your weekly pause.
Every episode is a casual, honest conversation about the real stuff of life: our struggles, joys, relationships, doubts, and quiet victories. No hot takes. No agendas. Just relaxed dialogue, common sense, and a bit of humor for good measure.

Life isn't perfect. Far from it. And neither is this podcast. Let’s be honest, I’m a mess. But it’s that mess that makes me human. And sharing that humanity with you is what truly connects us.

how we got here
Here's a bit more background, just in case you're curious.

For the past twelve years, I've been navigating a complex mix of health challenges including a chronic neurological condition called BIND, moderate to severe ADHD, and the deaths of multiple family and friends. BIND alone has caused more than 70 distinct symptoms, many severe and life-altering. It even led some of my friends to end their own lives. It's been brutal; I won't sugar coat it.
At the same time, this period in my life has also been the greatest teacher I’ve ever had.

When you deal with a condition like BIND, you learn a great deal about yourself. You discover how to find meaning in hardship, how to cultivate joy even on the hardest days, and most importantly, how to hold onto hope when life seem stacked against you.
As a lifelong workaholic who could no longer work in his previous field, I channeled that energy into understanding and addressing this condition. I wrote a book on the subject. Hosted two podcasts. Trained doctors. Lectured at conferences. Coached clients. Founded various support organizations. And, co-authored several research papers, including the very first study that identified BIND.

But one of the biggest frustrations I faced early on was realizing I couldn’t do much to help people heal faster. I could answer questions, validate what they were going through, and offer a few suggestions… but I couldn’t speed up time. And yet, there was an area where I could make a difference.

If I couldn't do much to heal their BIND symptoms directly, perhaps I could help them ease their anxiety, their fear, and most of all, their hopelessness. I could connect them with a community that understood, and reminded them they weren’t alone. As I did this, I soon discovered that the more honest and open I was about my own struggles and failures, the more people connected with me. It made me feel less like an “expert” and more like a friend; a friend who was right there in the trenches with them.

I also discovered that people with BIND weren’t my only listeners and clients. Folks dealing with other illnesses, significant loss, or just the general messiness of life, started showing up too. It seemed my story and message resonated more broadly than I ever thought they would.
And so, I decided to launch A Calm Voice. A podcast for anyone seeking a friendly conversation about life and all its complications.
